Witnesses sought after Wasaga assault involving multiple victims


Two victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a ‘serious assault involving multiple victims’ at the start of Canada Day

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment are currently investigating a serious assault with multiple casualties in Wasaga Beach.

In the early hours of Friday, July 1, 2022, just after midnight, members of the Huronia West OPP responded to a 911 call regarding a serious assault in progress on River Avenue Crescent in the town of Wasaga Beach.

Numerous police resources attended the scene, as well as the Wasaga Beach Fire Department and the Simcoe County Ambulance. A large crowd of young people were in the streets but quickly dispersed. Two victims were identified and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe witnesses to the incident may be in possession of cellphone video footage and are seeking to speak to those people.

Police are also asking area residents who may have home surveillance footage to please review it and contact police if anything is observed that could assist in the investigation.
