Wasaga Beach resident faces impaired driving charges


Police say the vehicle was clocked 40 mph over the speed limit in the area of ​​Highway 26 and Atkinson Road in Springwater


Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment have charged a 22-year-old driver with impaired driving and stunt driving following a traffic stop in the Township of Springwater.

On March 29, just after 9:30 p.m., a Huronia West OPP officer was conducting checks in the area of ​​Highway 26 and Atkinson Road in Springwater Township in response to community complaints of speeding.

The officer observed a westbound vehicle on Highway 26, [allegedly] drive at a speed of 145 km/h in a zone posted at 80 km/h. The officer conducted a traffic stop and was investigated for impaired driving.

Skyler Bailey, 22, of Wasaga Beach, was charged with impaired driving (alcohol and drugs), impaired driving (blood alcohol concentration over 80) and acrobatic driving due to a excessive speed.

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days following a stunt driving charge under the Highway Traffic Act and the driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood in April to answer the charges.
