Wasaga Beach prepares for an unauthorized H20i car rally


An unauthorized car rally will rock the streets and parking lots of Wasaga Beach this weekend.

For the third year in a row, sports cars will land in the small beach town, which in previous years has seen smoky burnouts and donuts in private parking lots.

Although the Town of Wasaga Beach is aware of the event, it has not heard of any organizer applying for permits to hold such a large event.

“This is an unauthorized event. The city has received no official notice. In recent weeks there have been discussions on social media about the event,” said Michael Gennings, manager. communications from Wasaga Beach.

“No official special event requests have been submitted.”


Wasaga Beach is hosting the MultiSport Canada Triathlon and Duathlon this weekend.

Social media posts have indicated that there will be a meet and greet on Friday evening and events could unfold throughout the weekend.

const. Elizabeth Newton said last year’s event resulted in 488 calls to the local OPP detachment from September 24-26.

“During this time, officers responded to 11 motor vehicle collisions in the area. A total of 399 charges were laid. Seventy vehicles were towed, 33 (were deemed) unfit vehicles and 22 for (charges of) stunt driving,” Newton said. in a video posted on social media.

City staff and the Ontario Provincial Police met to discuss operational plans for the weekend.
