Wasaga Beach man faces drug and gun charges after vehicle stops

PARRY SOUND – On December 9, 2021 at approximately 2 a.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on a general patrol in the town of Parry Sound. Police stopped a vehicle and opened an investigation.

Upon further investigation, Jonathan Cyr, 30, of Wasaga Beach, Ont. was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to section 91 (2) of the Criminal Code (PC)
  • Driving while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18 (1) (a) CC
  • Possession of broken instruments, contrary to article 351 (1) CC
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Cocaine, contrary to section 4 (1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – methamphetamine, contrary to section 4 (1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance contrary to section 4 (1) of the CDSA
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle or boat with readily available cannabis, contrary to section 12 (1) of the Cannabis Control Act, 2017
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open alcohol container, contrary to section 42 (1) (a) of the Liquor License Act
  • Driving in suspension, contrary to article 53 (1) of the Highway Code
  • Driving a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2 (1) (a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on February 3, 2022.
