Wasaga Beach is adding a new paramedic station to its east end.
Announced Monday, the Town of Wasaga and the County of Simcoe agree to set aside a one-acre parcel of land for the new station.
The Simcoe County Paramedic Station will be located at 544 River Road West and is expected to be operational in 2025, subject to County Council approval.
The council approved the sale of the land to the county on March 10. He will ratify his decision on March 24.
“We are very pleased to work with our Simcoe County partners on this project, which will ultimately provide a second paramedic station in our community,” said Mayor Nina Bifolchi. “This represents a significant investment in Wasaga Beach.”
George Cornell, Warden of Simcoe County, said it was a decision that needed to be made.
“With our growing population, we are experiencing an increase in paramedic call volume throughout the region. To further meet the growing needs of our communities, we continue to make strategic investments to improve our services,” Cornell said.
“This includes working with our municipal partners to plan new facilities such as the future Wasaga Beach Station of Simcoe County Paramedic Services, which will serve residents of Wasaga Beach and surrounding communities.
“We are proud to help our partners in the Town of Wasaga Beach move this exciting community project forward.”
Wasaga’s current paramedic position continues as the second position in the community.
