Often considered the first big event of the season, the Great Delaware Kite Festival takes place this Friday within the beautiful confines of Cape Henlopen State Park.
This festival has been a mainstay of the spring season for over half a century and is always a great time for the whole family. And for several years, an Easter egg hunt has become a welcome addition to this long-running event.
That’s the headline for this third weekend in April in the coastal region, but we also have a number of other interesting things to tell you, including the final days of the Lewes Tulip Celebration and Ocean City Restaurant Week.

Great Delaware Kite Festival and Easter Egg Hunt (April 15)
A sure sign that spring has arrived in Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, this family-friendly festival is being held for the 51st time in beautiful Cape Henlopen State Park.
The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance again this year, with an Easter egg hunt taking place for the eighth year.
This year’s Egg Hunt starts at 11 a.m. and features 5,000 eggs filled with candy and toys. It is for children under 12 and participation is free.
Other highlights of this popular spring festival in Lewes include:
- Kite competition for children at 11:30 a.m.
- Highest kite contest at 1 p.m.
- Egg Games after the highest kite competition
- Adult kite competition at 2 p.m.
- Professional stunt kite flying demonstrations
Parking for the Great Delaware Kite Festival is at the park’s beach parking lot, with transportation provided to the event venue.
The festival is free, but Cape Henlopen State Park entry fees of $5 for Delaware license plates and $10 for out-of-state license plates apply.
This annual event is co-sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation.

Dewey Egg Scoop and Dewey Dogs Easter Parade (April 16)
Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach is the site this Saturday, April 16, for the resort’s annual Dewey Egg Scoop, which is due to begin at 10:45 a.m.
Egg hunts for children will take place first, followed by one for adults at 11:30 a.m. The adult version is $10 per person, with the person finding the special egg winning half of the 50/50 draw of the ‘event.
All leashed dogs are then invited to take part in the Dewey Dogs Easter Parade, which begins at 11.45am.
Photos with the Easter bunny will also be available during the event.

Easter Bunny Bonanza (April 16)
The Easter Bunny will be landing at Lewes Canalfront Park this Saturday, April 16 for a special celebration between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public and features activities such as an Easter egg hunt, egg painting, a “Jelly in the Belly” contest, games of mini-tennis and more.
