The community enjoys the Fire & Ice festival


The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce presented checks to Fire & Ice Festival recipients at its Feb. 23 after-hours event at the Salted Rim Margarita Bar & Grill in Millville.

This year’s festival raised a total of $25,600 to be donated to three local nonprofits.

For the third year, the beneficiary of the Fire & Ice Drink contest and tasting tour, Nemours duPont Pediatrics & Senior Care – Sussex Campus, received $10,100 from proceeds raised at both events. Participating restaurants in the Jan. 16 event, which hosted 120 customers, were 99 Sea Level, Bethany Blues, Good Earth Market, Harvest Tide Steakhouse, Just Hooked, Signatures at Bayside, Cottage Café, the Den at Bear Trap Dunes, the Salted Rim and ZOCA. The tasting tour sold out 430 tickets for the rescheduled festival dates of February 11-13.

Santa’s Letters, a nonprofit dedicated to helping local families in need, received a check for $2,500 from the Beach Liquors Beer Garden and s’more sales at the Bethany Beach Bonfire sponsored by Su Casa. Dewey Beer Co., Crooked Hammock, Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery and Town of Ocean View contributed to the success of the beer garden’s first year.

The Millville Volunteer Fire Company received $13,000 from proceeds from the Fire & Ice Chili Cook-off and Tour de Fuego. The cook-off chili, sponsored by the town of Millville, sold 396 tasters in its first year. Le Tour de Fuego, organized by Lord’s Landscaping, Bethany Beach Beverage Co. and Common Ground Hospitality with contributions from State Farm Agent Billy Reese, Bethany Beach Books & Book Drop, Artisans Bank, Creative Concepts, Law Offices of Scott & Shuman, Parsons & Robinson, Perfect Furnishings and True North sold 104 modules and attracted over 400 people, raising $9,000.

In addition to supporting grantees, the chamber spent over $15,000 on local businesses for festival expenses, staying true to its mission. The chamber team is grateful to the 74 event sponsors, partner cities and 47 volunteers who helped make it all possible.
