South Coast Village Volunteers Become Active in the Community | Way of life

Representatives of South Coastal Village Volunteers offer information on volunteer opportunities and services available to members. The group participated in the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival on September 11 as they began their activities in the community.

Volunteers from the South Coastal Village (SCVV) celebrate some “firsts” as shoulder season begins at the beach. The SCVV, whose mission is to help the elderly to live independently by providing its members with voluntary assistance, began offering services at the beginning of this year.

As it was organized during the pandemic, the Village was unable to participate in public events for several months. Now, easing restrictions have allowed them to present themselves to the community at public gatherings to let residents know who they are and what they do.

SCVV, a branch of Village Volunteers, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, serving the postal codes of Bethany Beach, Millville, Ocean View and South Bethany.

For their first time attending an in-person event, South Coastal Village volunteers participated in the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival on September 11 with an information table. Volunteers handed out cards featuring the organization, including their new website address, and had the opportunity to talk about the group with festival-goers. The SCVV organizers said they were happy with the day’s results, as a good number of people signed up to pursue their interest in becoming volunteers or members.

On October 7, volunteers from the South Coast Village will host another “first” – their first fundraiser, catering and donation event at the Good Earth Market. The market will donate a portion of the lunch and dinner recipes from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., for dinner and take-out, to SCVV. The Good Earth Market culinary team will prepare special dishes for the occasion, and members of the SCVV steering committee will be on hand at the restaurant to share information about the group. Call (302) 537-7100 to make reservations or to order take out.

Volunteers in the Southern Coastal Village provide members with up to 25 hours per month in services such as transportation, tours and calls, and household and technical assistance. These services are provided by volunteers who can choose to do what they want to do when they want to do it.
