A man fell to the floor from a second story window; SIU determined police did ‘nothing to cause or contribute to the man’s injuries’
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared police of any fault in the injuries to a man who fractured his hips after falling to the ground from a second story window.
According to the SIU Director’s report, police were called to a Wasaga Beach residence on August 4 to a report of a potential domestic dispute. Hearing someone ring the doorbell, a 66-year-old man “worried that the people at the door were his girlfriend and new boyfriend,” the report said.
The man then allegedly left the house through a second story window and fractured his hips when he fell to the ground.
Director Joseph Martino of the Special Investigations Unit “found it clear and obvious that the police did not contribute to or cause the man’s injuries”.
The investigation was dropped.
The Special Investigations Unit is an independent government agency that investigates police conduct where it may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person . SIU investigators are civilians.
