Red Shoe Walk returns to support My Friend’s House

My Friend’s House annual awareness event, the Red Shoe Walk, is back and better than ever.

In 2021, this flagship event raised over $67,000 for the shelter which serves women and children in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview Township, Thornbury and Meaford and organizers have set a fundraising goal of 85 $000 for 2022.

With a presenting sponsor in RBC Dominion Securities’ Groot Wealth Management, My Friend’s House is thrilled to add corporate support and has had many local sponsors join for the first time.

“We are delighted with our new partnership with RBC Dominion Securities’ de Groot Wealth Management and we are also delighted to welcome Alair Homes, Tatham Engineering, Huronia Alarms, Living Water Resorts, Baker Tilly and Press Market to our list of sponsors this year. event manager for the Red Shoe Walk, Jodi Petitpas, shared.

Step out in a pair of red heels that symbolize your commitment to ending violence against women, girls and people of all genders, and walk with your own team when you can. Participants can walk anytime during the month of September and share their experience on social media using #RedShoeWalk, showing their support for ending gender-based violence.

With this year’s walk happening again virtually throughout the month of September, participants will be able to advance and end their walk wherever they want. Teams even play golf, cycle and pub crawl, so creativity in participation is encouraged.

Throughout the pandemic, My Friend’s House has seen the increased inequalities women face, ranging from increased rates of domestic violence to sexual violence and harassment inside and outside the home. Calls to our trauma line have increased by 40% and the need for our services is increasing with the rapid growth of our community. The 24/7 crisis line received more than 3,000 calls last year.

“We challenge last year’s participants to join us again and bring a friend so we can share this amazing cause with even more members of our community. If we can increase both the number of participants and sponsors from the great momentum that has been created in 2021, we are sure to take an incredible “step forward” in the funds raised for 2022. We are delighted to impact we will have with this year. invaluable work event at My Friend’s House,” said Cam Ubell, Red Shoe Walk Community Ambassador.

The goal of My Friend’s House is to attract over 100 participants to march in solidarity for women and their children, while raising awareness and funds to end violence, promote equality and healthy relationships. This is a momentous occasion for men to declare that violence against women and girls is not just a women’s problem – it is everyone’s problem, and it will only be solved if everyone works together. Women are also encouraged to participate.

Participants can register online at and will be invited to come together for a thank you event on September 29 at Side Launch Brewery to thank all the teams and sponsors and celebrate hitting our fundraising goal with food, drinks and prizes. Bring your friends, colleagues and family members and walk around your neighborhoods or work spaces and add your voice to this important cause. You can show off your ally online via social media by tagging @MyFriendsHouseCollingwood and using the hashtag #RedShoeWalk.

About my friend’s house

My Friend’s House is a non-profit organization that provides support to abused women and children living in the Georgian Triangle of Ontario. Since opening in 1991, My Friend’s House has helped thousands of women get the security and support they need to rebuild their lives.

We serve 600 women and their children each year — 200 through our shelter program and the rest through our outreach, transition and children’s programs.

Our free and confidential services are available to all women and their children across the Georgian Triangle – from Wasaga Beach and Collingwood to Creemore and Meaford and all parts in between.

“For the first time in years, I had a good night’s sleep. Finally, we didn’t have to worry about my husband’s yelling, rough and violent abuse. »

My Friend’s House is set to raise over $700,000 this year to provide programs and shelter for women fleeing domestic violence in our community.
