According to officers, most deer collisions took place between dusk and dawn, the time of day when they are most active in foraging.

Police remind drivers to take the following precautions to reduce the risk of hitting wildlife:

  • Sweep the road from shoulder to shoulder.
  • Watch your speed and be careful at night.
  • Try not to focus solely on the animal when trying to avoid hitting it. Instead, focus on the alternate route you decide to take.
  • Use high beam headlights at night whenever possible.
  • Never deviate suddenly.
  • Brake firmly but with control.
