The vandalism occurred in the early morning of July 20 and a suspect was photographed by surveillance cameras nearby
Within a week of installing a new rainbow crosswalk at Wasaga Beach, it was vandalized.
Just before 4 a.m. on July 20, someone dumped buckets of paint on the new crosswalk.
Simcoe Crime Stoppers Dufferin Muskoka issued an appeal for information through his social media channels, posting surveillance footage of the suspect as he throws paint on the crosswalk. The photos appear to show a white man holding two cans of paint in one arm and throwing a third over the crosswalk.
The rainbow was painted at the intersection of Mosley Street and 39th Street in front of the Wasaga Beach Youth Center on July 14.
According to a press release from the Town of Wasaga Beach, the official unveiling of the crosswalk was scheduled to take place during Simcoe Pride, which runs July 26 through August 8.
Wasaga Beach communications manager Michael Gennings has confirmed that the unveiling will take place on July 26.
The city was able to clean up the spilled paint from the crosswalk.
