Massive fire destroys two homes in Wasaga Beach

Emergency crews responded to a massive house fire in Wasaga Beach on Thursday afternoon that spread to the neighboring house.

Flames could be seen coming out of the roof of a house on Waterview Road as it was engulfed in fire.

The calls came in shortly after noon as Springwater Township crews were called in to help.

Firefighters had to deal with the extreme heat while battling the blaze as temperatures reach near 30C but are feeling much hotter with the Humidex reaching around 36-40 degrees. Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the third consecutive day this week.

Heavy plumes of smoke fill the air and can be seen by those on the beach in town.

Police said the heavy smoke was causing poor visibility for drivers on surrounding roads, prompting officers to help with traffic control.

Paramedics told CTV News no injuries were reported.

Both houses were destroyed by fire.

At present, the cause of the fire is unknown.

Police have closed Beachwood Road in the Waterview Road area for emergency services. The public is asked to avoid the area.
