Man wanted in connection with Wasaga Beach assault


Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment are currently investigating a serious assault in the town of Wasaga Beach.

On July 30 at approximately 10:20 a.m., OPP officers responded to a 911 call to an address on Cedar Grove Parkway in Wasaga Beach. Officers located one person inside the residence with serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition.

As a result of the investigation, Gary Costa, 39, of Toronto, is to be charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Choking, Choking or Strangling
  • Mischief — destroying or damaging property
  • Uttering threats – causing death or bodily harm

A warrant for the arrest of the accused has been issued. Anyone with information about Gary Costa’s whereabouts is asked not to approach him and to call the police immediately.

It is believed there is no risk to public safety as investigators do not consider this to be a random incident.
