Huge fire destroys two homes in Wasaga Beach

Emergency crews responded to a massive house fire in Wasaga Beach Thursday afternoon that spread to the house next door.

Flames could be seen erupting from the roof of a house on Waterview Road as it was engulfed in the blaze.

The calls arrived shortly after noon as teams from Springwater Township were called in to help.

Firefighters had to contend with the extreme heat while battling the blaze as temperatures hit nearly 30C, but feel much warmer with the Humidex reaching around 36-40 degrees. Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the third consecutive day this week.

Heavy plumes of smoke fill the air and can be seen by those on the city beach.

Police said the thick smoke caused poor visibility for drivers on surrounding roads, prompting officers to help with traffic control.

Paramedics told CTV News there were no reports of injuries.

Both houses were destroyed by the fire.

At the moment, the cause of the fire is unknown.

Police have closed Beachwood Road in the Waterview Road area for emergency services. The public is urged to avoid the area.
