Georgian College in Barrie and Lakehead University in Orillia are preparing for students to return to classes and in-person activities this fall.

The Ministry of Colleges and Universities has told post-secondary institutions that classes will resume without capacity limits or physical distancing.

The ministry advised schools to have a plan for how learning would continue in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Lakehead University said it is planning a primarily in-person learning experience for the 2021-2022 academic year and “will adjust all plans” in accordance with safety regulations.

Georgian College President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes said the return of the students was something they had been looking forward to for some time.

Barrie College’s Fall 2021 program “will include a combination of online and in-person distance deliveries. Georgian students and employees can expect a gradual increase in campus activity as the semester progresses, ”a statement from the college said.

In a note to post-secondary schools, Deputy Minister Shelley Tapp said continued advances in immunization and “improved key public health and health care indicators” were factors returning to “in-person experiences. darlings “.

Tapp also said the ministry would release updated guidance on health and safety measures in early August.

Universities and colleges must always follow all public health and workplace safety rules, including requiring masks indoors.

Public schools will still have the option of using a mix of in-person and online learning.
