COVID-19 News: More than 102 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Simcoe Muskoka since Friday

BARRIE, ONT. – The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) recorded more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 over the long weekend.

The health unit has reported 102 infections since Friday. Of these, 72 are unvaccinated, 15 partially and 15 completely.

LAST VACCINE

About 72% of Simcoe Muskoka residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as more pop-up clinics offer walk-in injections.

Anyone born in 2009 or before can be vaccinated.

Last week, the Sperling Drive RVH vaccination clinic reported an increase in the number of residents wanting the first dose of a vaccine.

This follows the province’s announcement that some indoor companies will require proof of immunization prior to entry starting September 22.

Complete information on the Ontario Vaccination Certificate can be found here.

Recently released provincial modeling shows that the Delta variant is twice as transmissible and increases the risk of hospitalization and ICU admission.

FIND A POP-UP CLINIC

SMDHU is opening vaccination clinics in many local schools to help prevent transmission.

The clinics aim to make shooting more convenient for students, families and educators.

School context clinics will begin Thursday at the Barrie North Collegiate Institute after school hours.
