Georgian College is the latest post-secondary institution to require COVID-19 vaccines.

The college announced on Friday that all Georgian students and employees entering any campus or university location must be vaccinated.

The first dose of a vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization will be required by September 7, and a second dose to ensure a full vaccination will be required by October 18.

The college will soon publish the vaccination policy. It will also address the issue of visitors who frequent one of their campuses or locations.

Georgian College President and CEO Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes said: “Throughout the pandemic, while maintaining the delivery of our programs on and off campus, Georgian has made a commitment to health. and the safety of our students and employees. This has guided our decisions from the very beginning and this decision is no different. West-Moynes went on to say, “We know that widespread immunization is our best strategy for a safer and faster return to campus life and I am committed to doing all we can to make this return a reality for us. our students and employees. As an academic institution, we also understand our role and responsibility for the common good and our commitment to protecting the health and safety of the communities we are fortunate to be a part of and cherish. “

The college says it is working with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to organize on-campus vaccination clinics. Details, locations and dates will be made public as soon as possible.

Earlier this month, the college said vaccinations were mandatory for anyone living on campus.

In July, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities told post-secondary institutions that classes would resume without capacity limits or physical distancing. The ministry advised schools to have a plan for how learning would continue in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Students have been on campus taking classes at Georgian College since July 2020. Kim Garraway, communications manager at MCM, told CTV News that 35-40% of Georgian College students resume classes on campus on September 7. .

Meanwhile, Lakehead University in Orillia says vaccinations will not be mandatory for students on campus, but students living in residence will be vaccinated.
