Collingwood driver charged in Wasaga Beach accident


WASAGA BEACH – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment have laid multiple charges after responding to a vehicle collision with a building in the town of Wasaga Beach.

On Sunday May 29, 2022 at around 6am, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Mosley Street involving a vehicle which crashed into a local business. Witnesses at the scene described the driver fleeing the area on foot after the collision.

With the assistance of numerous response officers and the Central Region Canine Unit, the driver was located shortly thereafter and taken into custody.

As a result, Madelaine Stephenson, 21, of Collingwood, has been charged with the following:
• Impaired driving
• Impaired driving – BAC 80 plus
• Dangerous operation
• Motor vehicle theft over $5,000
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Assault with intent to resist arrest x2
• Driving under suspension
• Do not stay

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on June 28, 2022.
