Barrie Holiday Events in December

The City of Barrie is helping residents celebrate the holidays by hosting a wide range of free New Year’s Eve activities to replace the traditional downtown countdown.

Events will be spread across the Holly Community Center, East Bayfield Community Center and downtown Barrie.

Some New Year’s Eve highlights include:

  • Holiday-themed programs at Holly Community Center and East Bayfield Community Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • A holiday show hosted by the Mariposa Skating School at the Holly Community Center at 5 p.m.
  • A skating party with a live DJ and light show at the Circle at the Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Skating at the Centennial Park Community Rink (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Free transit from 3 p.m. until the end of regular service
  • Fireworks show at Kempenfelt Bay starting at 9 p.m.

The City of Barrie is following the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and the Province of Ontario regarding gathering restrictions and capacity limits.

An interactive light display called “The Island of Heat” installed at Meridian Place from December 13 to January 3 will take place in addition to existing events on December 31.

The exhibit will include an interactive campfire made up of 154 incandescent bulbs that will dance to the sound of music.

Visitors will be able to generate the sounds and movements of the fire thanks to sensors placed under the floor of the platform.

Holiday-themed underwater photos with Santa Claus, a free public skate and a family holiday craft will also take place in December.
