After a two-year absence, Hike & Bike for Hospice raises $176,000

The community oiled up their bike chains and laced up their hiking boots on sunny Sunday, May 29 in support of Hospice Georgian Triangle. After two years, the Hike & Bike was held in person from the Collingwood Curling Club and raised a record $176,000.

Participants had the option of hiking or cycling 6 km or cycling 20 km through Collingwood’s trail system and the shores of Georgian Bay. There were over 350 participants and 110 volunteers.

“This year’s walk and bike ride was an incredible example of the generosity of our community,” said Dr. Michael Shape, Chair of the Georgian Triangle Hospice Board of Trustees and Chair of the Event Committee. “We are very grateful to the many supporters of palliative care.

The top fundraising team was Margot’s Motavators led by Margot Brandreth. His team of family and friends had over 100 members, raised $39,657 and received an award from Squire John’s. The top individual fundraiser was Ian Hawkins who brought home a new bike from Kamikaze.

At the finish line there was music and entertainment provided by 95.1 The PeakFM and a children’s entertainment area provided by Built by Barron. All participants received a Darren Neil & Sons sponsored t-shirt, race pack and lunch.
