25+ ideas for a long lazy weekend

The last long weekend of the summer is in our sights. What will you do with your three days of relaxation? Labor Day means the end of summer for many, and whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend to reconnect with your love, or a last hurray for summer, we’ve got you covered! Check out our comprehensive guide to Labor Day Weekend in Tampa Bay, from lazy weekend ideas to long weekend activity ideas and events.

Hit the beach

Gulf waters might not be exactly refreshing in midsummer… but if you just can’t resist the call of the sea, head to the coast for a lazy day at the beach. And besides, it doesn’t get any more summery than a day at the beach, especially during Labor Day weekend. Get there early to plant your social space in the sand, complete with snacks and drinks. These Tampa Bay beaches allow drinking on the beach. Just remember – no glass bottles.

PS: Concerned about the red tide conditions? Online resources like visitbeaches.org and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports are helpful resources.

Lounge by the pool

Treat yourself to an indulgent pool day to celebrate the long weekend. You can book a day pass for the pool only through sites like ResortPass. Participating hotels include Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach, The Don CeSar, Epicurean Hotel and more. Be careful, day passes can be extremely difficult to find on weekends, especially in summer. Extend your stay by booking a stay at a local resort with a soft pool. Here are our favorite hotel pools in Tampa Bay, including options for daytime use and those exclusive to overnight guests.

Go in tube

Nothing says lazy like floating on a lazy river or a natural spring in an inner tube. If you don’t mind driving a bit, these tubing spots are 2 hours or less from Tampa, and the cool water temperatures will provide a welcome respite from our scorching summer temperatures. Be sure to plan ahead, as parks typically reach capacity in the early summer months.

Book a weekend getaway

Use the extra day off to plan a long weekend or vacation. We’ve put together a handful of three-day getaway itineraries for you. Each itinerary includes options for where to stay, where to dine, and fun things to do in the area. Or, take advantage of one of these summer vacation deals.

Have a picnic date

Grilling is fun, but having someone else do all of the work, including the setup, is better. Several local picnic businesses offer elaborate facilities in local parks with fine cheese and cold cuts spreads and photo-worthy decor. St. Pete Picnic Co. offers a special package to Sunken Gardens (as well as many other local places). Other companies include The Picnic Social and That’s My Jam.
